The weekly rewards are distributed every Monday morning. To be eligible, you must have upvoted new content that eventually made its way to the front-page. That means upvoting QUALITY content. Rewards are basically a finder's fee for high quality, or viral content. This is how Stasher News rewards curators.
Currently, the top 10 curators receive weekly rewards. We wanted to start with a low number like 10, so that the rewards don't get diluted too much when the platform is new and there are few users. As the number of active users increases, we will consider increasing the number of users the rewards get distributed to.
I'm new to Monero... I set up a wallet on CAKE as recommended by the platform, but I get an error when trying to swap between BTC LN and XMR; I can't seem to complete the exchange with any of the options on the list.

what stops someone from using a sock puppet account to upvote their own content and get in the rewards every week?
We have basic mitigations in place for new accounts, not counting tips from the same wallet registered to an account, but it doesn't stop someone from aging a bunch of accounts to use later.
Currently in the process of implementing additional sybil protections that are much more difficult to circumvent.
