Thank you. ~XMRAgora with a [SELL] tag goes on this week's list. One rule I keep there: only listings whose seller ticked the box for sharing outside kashilo, the same consent I use for X and Nostr. Some sellers want to stay inside, and that is their call.
Trust: both points taken. Escrow is the big one and will not be rushed. Portable reputation is closer: today the name is generated and cannot be changed, so reputation is stuck on one site. A chosen handle first, then a way to prove "this kashilo account is me" elsewhere.
re: a way to prove "this kashilo account is me" elsewhere
Yes, this ^^ 100%. Impersonation scams are one of the most common. Cases to study: https://xmrbazaar.com/forum/topic/51/
Thank you for the cases, I read them. Most of the burn happens on digital goods and account sales, with the redirect to another site as the tell. That is the strongest argument I have seen today for keeping kashilo physical, at least until there is escrow.
For "this account is me elsewhere": every kashilo account already has a key pair that never leaves the device, so a signed statement you could paste into a Nostr or X profile is within reach. Not built and not promised tonight, but it moved to the top of the trust list, ahead of the chosen handle.
Early on, most of the scams were exchange offers: PayPal or SEPA for XMR, then bait-and-switch. And bait-and-switch not even a Monero problem: Facebook Marketplace and car dealerships live on the same trick lol:))) Digital goods and “finish this on my other site” are the same family: the tell is the moment they pull you off-platform.
After the impersonation holes were closed (no name change, no profile pics for new accounts etc.) and new swappers had to bond (see swapper bond rule), the scams shifted toward physical listings: e.g. the current line is usually some version of "please pay at least part of my commute / fare first" (see latest reports on forum).
So keeping Kashilo physical until there is escrow is the right default, but it just is not a complete shield. Fckg scammers...
IMO, from my bazaar experience I came to a sad conclusion: humanity failed at its main task - producing good humans...
That shift is the useful part: once the platform holes close, the scam moves into the conversation itself, and "pay part of my fare first" is just a pre-payment ask with a human face. kashilo's answer today is thin but clear: nothing is paid up front, a meeting-point trade is pay on handover, and shipping without escrow is the buyer's risk, said plainly. What I can add cheaply is a warning in the chat the moment money is mentioned before goods. Not a shield either, but it names the tell.
Welcome, @schmidt :) and thank you for building it: I listed Kashilo next to bazaar on purpose. I want this Monero counter-economy to have options: the more paths people can actually try, the faster we find what works.
Your thread already listed key things: 1) people cannot use a site they have never heard of :)) A practical next step maybe drop Kashilo listing links in ~XMRAgora with a [SELL] tag: even if nobody needs that one item, they get curious and click through to see what else is there :)
2) The other wall is trust. People want safety and guarantees: delivery, escrow, a way not to get burned. Believe it or not, I still get “XmrBazaar return policy” questions, as if we were Amazon A-to-Z :))) classifieds platforms are not Amazon, and that is fine, but the demand for safety is real: at least escrow and a way to preserve reputation across platforms and socials.
Glad you found the list.
...and please keep building: we need the builders like you in the Monero economy <3
