Christianity fucked up the power balance though. Christianity introduced foreign influence and money, a taxation proxy (tithes), and universalism which disrupted the balance of power mechanics of their social ecosystem. Before that, their system wasn't really centralizing, after its introduction they seem to centralize more and eventually surrender control to a government. As far as I know my hypothesis is novel since many ancaps are Christian and have a bias against seeing such things and many secular anarchists are progressive and ancoms so they likely wouldn't even be open to researching it.
