pull down to refresh

Removing politics from low is like removing seeds from fruit and believing it will taste better. What needs to change from my perspective is the mindset of people and how and on what we educate future generations.

Hasnas is not saying you can pull the coercive part out and the rest tastes better. He says the opposite up front:

“Although this depoliticized law is inherently coercive, it is not inherently a vehicle for domination.”

And:

“those subject to law are indeed bound, but not by the will of any particular human beings.”

Mindset and education matter. They always do. They do not answer the question he actually asks: once people are living together and conflicts have to be settled, is the settlement the product of

“human action, but not the execution of any human design,”

or is it the output of people who hold the machinery of the state?

He defines political as

“anything that is concerned with the effort to gain control of the machinery of the state or that is the consciously created output of that machinery. Everything else will be considered non-political.”

Changing what we teach does not make a statute stop being someone’s command.
