No. On XMRBazaar I've had only a few trades, mostly with one trader, and only ones with a real reputation. Not a method -- I just never had a real chance to get scammed. I also never reply to random DM offers, and I've had quite a few of those.

Thankfully, no. I assume this extends outside of the Monero ecosystem, but largely pertains to P2P for XMR deals. Haven't heard of anything, especially recently, in my inner circle which is nice, but I can tell you if there is they will be certainly put on blast with a public service announcement :D

Monero P2P? No. Dealing with these mthrfckers nonstop wires a scam detector straight into your synapses =)))

Still won’t touch a deal with a stranger without escrow or a bond, no matter the reviews and reputation: they can (and WILL) be faked in five minutes, or days, or months...

“Escrow (or a bond) is the only truly scam-proof signal we have.”

Scammers don’t lock their own money in 2-of-3 multisig: it would bankrupt the "business model" lol.

scammers are dumb. if they were smart they would not be scammers. perfect ai voice and fake video is for high-profile scams. your average indian scammer is easy to spot if you are not an idiot yourself. friend got burned once on an irl p2p. thing looked real, was fake. lesson to never rush and always use your own tools. not theirs.

reply

I agree most scammers are dumb and play with specific situations and scripts to succeed. Anything outside the script is a failure, and they proceed to the next one.

Can you provide more details without personal info? For example, what was the tool used? In which way did it look real/fake?

reply

it was gold. when you buy gold you ping it to check if the stuff is real. and you do it with your own tool, not the one they hand you.

Thankfully no, escrow is amazing at fixing a lot of these problems.

Also, looking at the reputation of who you're dealing with, if you're dealing with somebody with a very good reputation over a lot of trades, then perhaps you can forgo escrow in certain cases. But, if you're dealing with somebody brand new, or with very low reputation, then escrow is a must.

Fixing? You mean avoiding?

Checking reputation is not always possible. From a buyer perspective, do you know if in Monero there's a way to show/demonstrate to a seller "hey, here is the money"

Not in a P2P trade, thankfully. The closest thing is when I was scammed doing a twitter giveaway. The scammer changed their account name to look like the winner and DMd me for the prize. I didn't check before sending it. Thankfully, it wasn't a large amount, lesson learned.

I probably have not fallen for a p2p scam yet because I have only taken relatively small p2p trades which had some sort of insurance/collateral or escrow.

That's a really low-key impersionation practice.

@untraceabIe (with capital I) can be subject to it too... have you registered your altnyms yet?

reply
