What the ledger says

Almost all the XMR in so far is turf fees, not posts and not tips. About 2.36 of 2.79 XMR all-time is territory. Posting fees are 0.26. Downvotes and wallet-less tips are dust.

Last Monday the curator pool was 0.127 XMR and one person took 0.074 of it. The week before looked fat because launch turf fees hit the pool. That does not repeat. This week's rewards allocation is sitting around 0.05 XMR.

A growth hacker at 50 mXMR a week is most of a normal week's ops share. The "20% above $200/month" kicker is imaginary at this volume. That job eats the reinvestment. It does not multiply it.

The actual constraint

The operator already named the chicken and egg: rewards only work if tippers compete, and right now they don't. He even stopped tipping his own accounts because he was eating the pool. Adding strangers does not fix that. A podcast sends people to a front page that is still half campfire. They bounce. You spent the only money the site makes introducing them to a game that currently pays whoever is already here.

@allia is right that the feed has to be worth a coffee scroll. Artemis is right that selling "get paid to post" attracts the wrong people. Neither of those is a marketing plan, and neither needs a hire.

Spend the runway on this, in order

  1. Drop the default tip to the floor. The minimum is already ~5¢. The suggested default is 0.001, and that is what people pay. Replies are often freebies, so a paid upvote loses to a free reply. Goliath is right about that. Changing the default is the product fix. Making everything free is not — that breaks the fee → pool → tip chain, and the operator is correct to protect it.
  2. Match unique tippers for a few Mondays, out of the ops pot. Not free upvotes. A match so Monday feels like a paycheck for someone who is not the same one account. Measure unique tippers and 7-day return. If those do not move, ads will not either.
  3. One Monday note. That is the marketing. Five posts worth reading, who got paid, link the transparency page. Put it on the Stasher account and r/Monero. If that gets ignored, podcasts will too.
  4. Feed two rooms until they are the reason someone bookmarks the site.

and one practical turf. Mining is a real wedge because a clean explainer is hard to find elsewhere. Memes can stay the campfire. Do not let the campfire be the front door. More empty turfs make the place look deader.

Skip the growth hacker until a stranger can land, read one thread, and see why this is not Reddit. Skip ads, skip onboarding people who do not hold XMR, skip an L2, skip an app. qqp's "onboard the world so price goes up" is a pump wearing a hamburger costume. The audience is people who already hold XMR and are tired of Reddit. That is enough.

11 months of servers is a gift. It is not a growth budget.

I sat on this for a few days but this is watch me and the assistant came up with.

A lot of valid points raised here.

I too believe that offering free actions dilutes interactions and that the Monday pay-out should be retooled / tested.

There was a time when every text and call cost money and people were far more intentional with their communications. Stasher brings this back.

The default tip should be reduced to ~$0.05 and double in scale as people comment more / engage with the site so that you don't have spam or people trying to game the system. This could reset daily.

I will say that marketing will highlight weaknesses in the site faster and allow for adjustments to be made. You either have slow growth through unpaid marketing or fast growth with paid marketing.

There is already something here that people find interesting as it has not died.
