https://datura.network/ is a work-in-progress new darknet, you can check the full spec here http://gdatura24gtdy23lxd7ht3xzx6mi7mdlkabpvuefhrjn4t5jduviw5ad.onion/Nowhere/Datura-Network/src/branch/main/spec/specification.md.

To summarise the part that impacts Moneros network security - to unlock bandwidth between nodes, a small randomX puzzle must be completed.

This is great!

It forces advisories attempting to perform a DDoS on a node to pay a real cost (in the form of power/cpu). It will also offer a small reward to node runners, since each randomX challenge is actually from p2pool and hence they can receive some Monero.

This gives some benefit to the Monero network overall, since it is not a "for profit" motive to mine. I may want to access a datura site/network, and therefore I am willing to pay a unprofitable amount of CPU (vs power cost) for that privilege. This should help decentralise Monero mining.

I would encourage anyone curious to open up tor and have a read of their spec, you can support the project here https://kuno.anne.media/fundraiser/h2zs/.

Nihilist was on Monerotopia at least one time, telling us about this and his Darknet Lantern project.

I haven't been closely involved with this project, but it does sound incredibly interesting
