The incentive to post and create good original content is receiving uptips.
But the volume of users is not here to justify this reward yet. The top post of the week maybe makes around $5 from upvotes while the top curator receives +$100
This also creates a positive feedback loop where the top curator can spend a portion of their reward, let's say $20, tipping indiscriminately and can expect a 5x on their investment if they get back on the reward list for the next week.
Content creation is more time / resource intensive than curation and if people get more rewards for the latter this will impact posting culture.
Uptips is a form of capital in general. Social capital does have an impact. I think monerowalling quality posts after establishing quality inputs in free posts and comments fixes this incentive even in this early stage. Also, the proposed fix does cap uptips compared to their current position. 1.5x is not a massive amount, it's an encouraging amount for someone that sustains tx fees and tx delays to do so. I create on here, but I also tip a lot on here and the reimbursement plus a little extra is a great incentive.
Taking notes, we will consider this in due time.
But also, as stasher pointed out, as the trust graph widens, the rewards won't be so concentrated on one curator as it has been. It will become fairer. We'll keep gathering data.
The incentive to post and create good original content is receiving uptips. The incentive needs to be for uptipping or else few would do it. Ranking and spreading trust is also dependent on uptips.
As an example, Doug told me that users can tip eachother on the xmrbazaar forums, but that feature is almost never used because there is no incentive to do it.
But there could be something in the future where the top N posts of a given week or month get a small bonus from the rewards pool. Something to brainstorm another time, its not needed for the core game theory.
