Follow this general format for feature requests:
The first reply should contain:
A title/name of the feature.
A what: description of the feature
A why: what does it accomplish, improve, or fix.
A how: How do you envision it working
Comments under the main reply can be used for further elaboration or discussion.
I have two small suggestions.
First, I believe the forum should establish a "Monero Basics" section, covering all aspects of Monero. Furthermore, there should be a prominently placed button—easily noticeable for newcomers—that leads directly to this section. This is precisely what newcomers need most.
Some might argue that there are already countless forum posts introducing Monero basics, and that we could simply provide links directing newcomers to other communities. But those resources belong to others, not you. If newcomers go to another site, learn about Monero there, why would they ever come back?
Are you putting in the effort to attract them only to hand them over to someone else?
What is the purpose of building this forum, then? Is it purely an act of charity?
Second, the requirement to pay for posting or replying has severely stifled the forum's activity. Unless this changes, the forum is destined to become stagnant and lifeless.
Why fear the appearance of low-quality posts?
When you open a window, fresh air flows in—but so does a bit of dust. Would you keep the window shut and deny yourself fresh air just to avoid a little dust?
No, that would hardly be a wise choice.
There is a Chinese saying: "Water that is too clear has no fish; a person who is overly critical has no friends." Fish thrive in water that contains a certain amount of organic matter; if the water is perfectly clear—devoid of any plankton or impurities—there is no food, and the fish cannot survive.
Similarly, if someone is excessively demanding or hyper-critical of others, no one will want to be their friend or associate.
Good idea.
I just established a turf for this: https://stasher.news/~Monero_Knowledge_Base//r/OldNorseAnarchist
Let me know if you want me to tweak anything I included in the turf description.
Regarding the paying portion:
That's kind of the whole concept of the site. Every other social media is free or ultra-low barrier to entry, but the incentives established overwhelmingly benefit the site operator and maliciously harvest off the users and creators. The idea here is to have a higher barrier to entry, but a better incentive structure. It's moving away from the "free" ad based/data harvesting model to the paid model, but with even better incentives and design. Most other sites are bot infested, state manipulated, dead internet theory hellholes. Here, it is still early, but I feel like the community has already developed an immune system against bots and those bots only came about as a result of how potentially killer the incentives are.
If I didn't overspend on a couple of frivolous turf creations (one of which seems to already be dying out and I decided to pay the forever price for it), I would have already been around even or profitable on here and that's including my high volume of activity.
Stasher Partner Program
What: An incentive for influencers to favour Stasher over other platforms.
Why: To grow the space through cross promotion marketing and leveraging influencers.
How: Influencers would sign an agreement by which they must post new content on Stasher before other platforms. Something like 48h or 72h before other platforms. This way people on Stasher get early access and their community has a reason to join Stasher.
Influencers should also get 10 free posts / comments a week to help bring their community to Stasher and build engagement.
Contributor Pool Rewards
A weekly payout for posts that had the most tips (by single users) and the most comments.
This would encourage original content posting and engagement. It would reward those who add valuable original content to the site instead of curating third-party content or trying to be the first link attribution of another news site.
What: Private Turfs with lower fees & mod rules
Why: Better niche community spaces to compete with Discord, Facebook Groups, Session, Simple X, Reddit Subs. XMPP etc.
A private space for niche groups where people would request access, agree to rules and answer custom questions. Posts would not be seen by outsiders and mods could remove members.
This should have lower fees with lower pay-outs as the goal is to build community and regular active users not to make money.
For example, someone might create an app and wants to have a private channel for support requests.
Or in my case, a space for players of a game to answer specific rule questions.
Right now I'm debating if it is worth hosting the Cypherbunk Board Game community here or on my own XMPP server. The costs right now for maintaining a turf don't make sense for a small and growing project.
If there was a private turf that had 0 management costs but 50% of post fees went to the pool and 50% went to Stasher for upkeep that would be more attractive.
