I tried to get their IRC chat up but ran into some errors.
Still trying to work out what exactly this project is about, is it a crypto, community, religion? All of the above? 😅

darkfi took funding from Sam Bankman Fried and larps as cypherpunk
it is based on zcash tech. they didn't find the inflation bug
they engage in very shady underhanded behavior in the Monero community.
the financial times has published the almeda / ftx cap table a long time ago. Darkfi is on there with two 250k checks

the kurdish terror groups that amir was involved with have proven CIA ties. he has since changed his bio from "fought isis in syria" to "guerrilla fighter" + deleted some of his tweets in relation to the epstein emails / his old flickr account from before
I would stay away from this project and be wary about anyone involved

i was super hopeful but my theory now is they are such intellectual purists and so philosophical that it's unlikely they are every going to build anything. At some point you need the guy who just pushes the code and then iterates and improves. darkfi is a cool ethos, but a failure to launch. maybe i'm wrong and they are gestating something cool, but the good think is the lunarpunk theory and culture and you can learn a lot about theoretical stuff and history by participating.
From what I can see their philosophy is still egalitarian Enlightenmentism - the same philosophical foundation of every secular revolutionary group which is now wielding global tyrannical power 😞
I was pretty excited for the idea of it. Still am. But I don't hear or see anything about DarkFi other than the chat app which is... eh. Cool I guess? The hype and interest has died down for me, though that's probably a good thing. I need to see something working to get that interest back.
Good things take time, but I'm not really waiting for it either. If it comes, when it comes, then we talk.

It's supposed to be an anonymous ethereum bascially. Or Monero but programmable.
I think it's a good project, but development can be a little slow sometimes. Will be a big deal though when they are live.
They also have apps to download if you have issues with the IRC.
