It’s a nice concept & it works but since it runs on a browser that comes w/ certain constraints that doesn’t limit native apps.

RandomX creates new random programs for every hash & a native miner turns them straight into machine code for your CPU (that’s the JIT) so it can run more efficiently. In WASM which’s the WebAssembly virtual machine the browser uses, they go through an extra layer first that comes w/ VM translation, so they run slower. It also leans hard on AES, which CPUs have dedicated circuits for. WASM can’t reach those, so it does the work in software = inefficient. There’s the big dataset RandomX keeps in RAM. Browser wallet using light mode skips it, but then the miner has to calculate that data on the fly, which means extra computations it needs to make on that instead of just using it for more hashes, so again it slows things down. FP rounding = how decimal math gets rounded up or down. RandomX switches b/w rounding directions & WASM only has one, so that gets faked in code too, but runs slower. Browsers also can’t use huge pages (bigger memory blocks so the CPU spends less time finding data) or thread affinity (pinning each mining thread to its own core).

I got to emphasize I might be off on some details here because I didn't check the code of this browser miner specifically, but I'm directionally right.

All of it means just due to browser constraints & inability to work w/ the bare metal, the components CPU/RAM especially, it’s just inefficient & you’ll get lower hash rate & fewer moneros.

If you’re running this on like some public machine or something that you don’t have application installation privileges, go for it, otherwise the native application wins in pure efficiency and therefore moneros.

Also I personally don't have enough interest/time to follow Monero scene as closely as you do but if you can share where you see which news under posts, I think some people might be interested to follow those sources directly as well. In personal capacity for me it's just curiosity about where you see/encounter what you see. I'm not saying it for this instance, it's clear bc there's a link to the tweet. It's like for example where did you see the ADS-B doppler video from?

Thxn for your aggregation service. Some of these stuff I wouldn't've seen otherwise! Especially bc lots of Monero news are burried in between all the Monero yapping, self promotion, fights, bickering and ideological zealotry I can't stand to see/follow just to see the news parts, lol.
