Good morning Stashers

Here's whats new:

  • Monerowalled comments: authors can now wall-off the comments section, and open it up independently of the walled content as well (@AilliA 's feature request)
  • Bottom Navbar fixes (@shortwavesurfer2009 's bug report)
  • The weekly rewards distribution is capped at 0.6 XMR per week. The remainder rolls over to the following week. A nod to Monero's 0.6 XMR block reward. If its good enough to secure the Monero blockchain, its good enough for Stasher. This currently gives Stasher News a 10 week runway of guaranteed high weekly rewards.

all for now,
-stasher

0.6 is kind of weak IMO. A cap of 1 xmr is better. 0.6 split amongst 3-4 people isn't a lot, especially as stasher scales in users. I also think that the 0.6 as a nod doesn't make sense. Is it always going to remain at 0.6? If not, the nod hardly has significance. You could do 0.6 that then scales to 6, then to 60, but that would take much longer between each interval. I think 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. Makes much more sense and can still act as a nod to computing generally.

That being said, I'm biased. I have a lot of activity on here and 0.6 divided amongst multiple people doesn't get the blood pumping. It costs to participate here, so net gains can be much lower than 1/4 of 0.6, again, not as exciting. Also, 1 xmr was the initial amount thrown out when suggesting to cap it. I think it's reasonable that stashers should expect some variability in rewards. We have no idea if that generous donation will be remotely probable to expect again in the future. Spreading it out doesn't solve the drop off in rewards, it just prolongs it. I think periodic lumpy rewards are actually a better system than consistent lower ones. Come engage and you may get your part of the rewards which have been as high as 1 xmr distributed weekly is a better sell than you might get part of 0.6 xmr distributed weekly.

All that being said, again, I am highly biased. I was likely to get a solid chunk of the prize. A Monero prize is considerably better than a dollar prize because it is considerably higher friction to get Monero than cash and it's obtained privately.

Some of the people behind the project are evidently weak sauce. Absolute nonsense to flip the 1 to 0.6 and hide behind "the block reward". I put the money where the mouth is and downvoted, upvoted you.

The show must go on. ^_^

1 XMR was my arbitrary suggestion in the poll thread, and since nobody offered other suggestions I went with 0.6 a conservative amount. There wasnt much time to get feedback on the amount with only two days until the next distribution.

We can always increase the amount up to 1 XMR per week for the following weeks if the community prefers it. No money is lost, only delayed.

All eligible users still end up receiving the amount they deserve, whether its all in one week, or over 10 weeks. Unless of course a user intended to leave and stop participating after getting one big paycheck.

To be fair, I didn't provide other suggestions because I thought 1 xmr was a good idea. I can't see the post anymore, but I don't recall it being that explicit about asking for input about the cap amount. I could have just misinterpreted that though. Regardless, I appreciate the work of the team. I think you guys have been doing a great job so far and have been pushing out improvements and features pretty quickly.

Fair on the timing, and I'm not here for the pot. I pay to post, so I'd rather see the rules than get a number.

"Everyone gets the amount they deserve" doesn't tell anyone what they'd actually get. Post the formula: who's eligible, how the split works, and when the 0.6 cap gets reviewed. Then we can argue about the number with real numbers.

The 0.6 block reward nod is cute, but a published formula does more for people than a nod. I'm happy to earn my share by showing up. I just want to see how it's counted!

My two cents.

We are opensource by the way. The code is public.

I'll lay it out:

Who's eligible. During the reward week you must have:

  1. Tipped a post or comment that was created that same week (tipping old content doesn't count),
  2. on an item that finished in the top half of posts (or comments) by net vote weight,
  3. with your tips on that item totaling more than 0.0001 XMR,
  4. and a payout address registered  no address, no payout, share rolls over.

The stasher account (me) is no longer eligible for rewards or referrals. Staff/founder accounts tip at half weight.

Your score. For each qualifying item you tipped:

score = (fourth root)(your tips on it) × timing bonus × the item's popularity share
  • (fourth root): tip 0.0001 XMR → weight 100. Tip 1 XMR → weight 1,000. Ten-thousand times the money buys only 10× the weight. whales can't buy the pool, and splitting one tip into many pieces counts the same as one (consecutive tips from the same person are merged).
  • Timing bonus: 1st tip on an item ×1.00, 2nd ×0.76, 3rd ×0.64, 4th ×0.57… early curation beats late pile-on.
  • Popularity share: the item's vote weight ÷ total vote weight of all qualifying posts that week. Vote weight is the same score that ranks content: every upvote counts its tipper's trust × log of their tip so votes from established accounts move an item more than votes from fresh ones. Posts and comments are two separate contests, each gets half the pot.

Your payout.

payout = your total score ÷ everyone's total score × pot

Example: three eligible curators, scores 100 / 60 / 40. That's 0.3 / 0.18 / 0.12 XMR of a 0.6 pot.

come Vote: #341032

Thank you <3

Good idea, alternatively you could issue a larger reward but spread over to more people. Say the top 100 when the site gets larger etc.
