Mining for me and early adoption.
I've been around and mining for almost 10 years now.
I spent the first 8 of them just being a hobbyist tinkering around at home.
I spent alot of time on Reddit learning how to set up my own xmrig and sheets. Those early days were so different than now.
Pre-tail emissions mining has been one of my biggest profit makers overall.
As well as when the Canadian banks froze people's bank account I moved a large portion of my fiat investments just into Monero.
I only use a bank for what I need and my partner has everything in her name as well best we can.
With the advent of AI and better energy infrastructure I've definitely used some of those early profits to secure our home more independent.
Monero paid for the majority of our solar, not directly, but through various mean it funneled it's way into paying for the project.
One of the biggest reasons of getting solar was to be able to mine for free.
Monero also pays the monthly starlink bill.
Which I also wanted to be able to have as independent 24/7 connection as I could.
UPS pack, new CPUs often things tied directly to the farm I will try to use cake swap to get a gift card and make the purchase that way.
Monero is such a passion for me.
My 12 year old has just started mining.
Kids gonna go far.
I'm jealous… in a good way: I move too much for anything like that. No beautiful rigs like the ones in your mining thread, no solar, no farm: mini Whonix workstations I can pack and leave in 20 mins is all I can do rn. Got my first two small payouts yesterday after about a month (and just tipped half to you lol, thanks for your service: you are the real Monero star!). A year ago I couldn't even get that, just multiple laptops. Well, different pace, same direction.

There was a few times in my life that I could do the same thing; pack and leave in a moment. Lived in tents, sleeping under the stars and just letting the days go by. I have fond memoires of it.
I was still very suss of the systems then. It's why I lived that way. It was simple and I could get by.
I've lived a couple lives in my day. Grew up pretty well on financially but had shit parents, and not role models who understood how my mind worked. I ended up homeless after high school for a few years. Somehow got a union job, made pretty good money for 15 years, drank it and smoked it all up then got fat and bitter. Didn't learn a fucking thing.
Kinda just got mad at myself at 35. I'm a different duck for sure but just knew I wanted better for myself so started running and just trying to be more consistent and intentional daily.
That was 2016 I found two things in 2017 that let me latch onto something daily Triathlon and Monero strangely enough.
Started with one 1700X in a bachelor pad.
10 years later I have a home, a partner, and two wonderful step-sons. A large part of it is because of the daily effort of those two things; I built something somehow just by showing up.
My story has a fuck ton more layers and trauma to that haha!
I really believe in Monero, what it's purpose is and especially how the community can still mine and hold it up. It is really something special in this day and age for something not to get corrupted or eaten up by something big and greedy.
Monero is real...and in a digital age...it really could be a great unknow. It's an honor to be able to support it how I do.

People selling their XMR to me at a discount in exchange for fiat as part of an exchange service.
Like, you're paying me extra to take Monero off your hands in exchange for something inferior, fiat.
Amazing concept.
It almost feels like free Monero.
Am I technically buying XMR from them? Yes. But they're the ones coming to me with the request, willing to sell below market in exchange for the service/liquidity I'm providing.
Economically, that starts looking a lot more like working for Monero than simply buying it.
If people keep coming to you below market to dump XMR for fiat, that is closer to working for Monero than buy. Curious how you set the discount and whether the same sellers come back?

It's a cliché thing to say, but really the market sets the rates. I don't care much about being a buyer. I can just say, "Sure, I can buy it for 10% below market." If they accept, fine. If they don't, that's fine too. Some sellers do come back, sure.
As I need to balance activity on p2p accs not to look like I'm money laundering, and prioritizing selling side since there's higher profit in selling than buying, bc there's more open market demand on buying XMR than selling it back to market.
Remember the person you mediated for on Sep. 8, the likely crypto <-> XMR exchange with a 20% fee? That's the other side of the spectrum. Charging substantially above market can make the transaction look economically unusual, for example, potentially resembling wash trading intended to create an appearance of legitimate activity.

I don't think stasher is the correct venue.
W/o rep system and/or checks and balances, escrow/bond, you're going to have a bad time. It's proven again and again both in LocalMonero, bazaar and everywhere.
Also people come here for news and dialogue and stuff, trades don't have "there's value in seeing this news/dialogue" angle. (except promoting the service itself, I guess.)
There're reasons not to do trades directly in public as well, BTC is transparent chain, you can potentially time/amount correlate the other party via stasher dialogue tracking, boom, you know, can track BTC wallet of one of the trade parties. Not very private. You'd want trade metadata to be as little as possible for a trade as private as possible.
We don't benefit seeing open trades, trade parties end up w/ a trade less private doing it in the public square. Failing on multiple fronts, IMO.
